The Hacker Kitchen in London
I figured I am too lazy to write up about hacker kitchen so I should JFDI and make it short.
Hacker Kitchen in London is available for booking from Aug 2006 to mid-Oct 2006. Before someone writes a fancy ajax scheduler, please send booking requests to booking [at] hackerkitchen.org.
What is it about?
I like cooking. Cooking for oneself is less fun than cooking for friends. So I decided to start the hacker kitchen for people to book once a week, typically Wednesday or Friday. It’s simple, you pay for the ingredients and we will have dinner. Note that this is not a restaurant, and the guests are eating with the chef.
You will be telling me your dietary requirements and preferences, along with the budget for ingredients, which is typically £25 - £35 for 4 people. You can also sponsor how much you feel it’s worth after the meal, but it’s not obligatory. (So I can buy nice plates!)
Who can book?
This is really arbitary limit just for fun. You can book for 2-4 guests if one of the following is true:
- you know me personally,
- you are within two degrees (ie FOAF) on my linkedin page,
- you have ever been to Taiwan,
- or you have ever contributed to any open-source project.
Note that the guest(s) you bring along does not need to comply the above.
What to expect?
We will probably have 6-8 courses for 3 or 4 guests with £30 - £45 in total. Here are some photos.
In the first Hacker Kitchen dinner, sponsored by Best Practical Solutions as part of the Devel::Cover hackathon, we had a six-course meal (two toro dishes didn’t survive for the camera), and the luxury ingredients costed about £55 for three guests.
Where?
Hacker Kitchen in London is handily located near Bayswater and Paddington station, so you can even fly in to London just for dinner!

Hi CL,
really enjoyed the evening chez toi in September - food that tasted great, looked beautiful and interesting to watch being prepared, and good company.
I’ve finally sorted & uploaded my photos from the evening (not very good quality, I’m afraid.)
